VASKAR Walkathon 2025: “Amputation-Free India” Marches Strong from Freedom Park to Vidhana Soudha

Bengaluru, 10th November, 2025: The Vascular Surgeons Association of Karnataka (VASKAR) successfully organized the Walkathon 2025 in Bengaluru under the inspiring theme “Amputation-Free India.” Over 500 doctors, vascular specialists, and paramedical professionals participated, marching from Freedom Park to Vidhana Soudha to raise awareness about preventing avoidable amputations through early diagnosis and timely vascular care.

The event was graced by Shri Seemanth Kumar Singh, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City, as the Chief Guest, who lauded the efforts of medical professionals for their dedication to protecting lives and limbs. He emphasized the importance of awareness, stating,

“Such initiatives not only promote better health literacy but also foster a compassionate society where timely medical intervention can save thousands from lifelong disabilities.”

The Walkathon drew enthusiastic participation from the medical community and the public alike, symbolizing unity and a shared commitment to vascular health and limb preservation.

VASKAR Leadership: A Shared Mission for Limb Preservation

Dr. Venkatesh Reddy K, President, VASKAR, reaffirmed the association’s mission:

“Our goal is to make India an amputation-free nation by encouraging early screening, lifestyle modification, and timely vascular intervention. Most amputations are preventable if both the public and primary care physicians recognize the signs early.”

Dr. Vishnu M, General Secretary, VASKAR, added,

“Vascular diseases are silent threats. This Walkathon is our call to action to remind everyone that simple vascular check-ups can mean the difference between saving a limb and losing one.”

Dr. Murali Krishna N, Treasurer, VASKAR, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response:

“We are heartened by the strong turnout of doctors and paramedical teams. Their participation underscores our collective commitment to preventing needless suffering.”

Distinguished Guests Extend Support

The event also saw the presence of eminent dignitaries including Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal, Dr. Bhagavan B.C. (Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences), and Dr. H.R. Shantharajanna (Engineer-in-Chief, Bangalore Development Authority), who applauded VASKAR’s mission and pledged continued support for its cause.

Towards an Amputation-Free India

The VASKAR Walkathon 2025 underscored the urgent need for early detection, preventive care, and education on vascular health. The association announced plans to continue outreach programs, workshops, and public health campaigns across Karnataka to reduce the burden of amputations and promote vascular wellness.

The initiative concluded with a collective pledge to advocate awareness, accessibility, and affordability of vascular healthcare for every citizen taking one step closer to an “Amputation-Free India.”
