AASAS marks 25 years of excellence with a grand silver jubilee celebration

Medziphema, 22nd October, 2025: The Alumni Association of the School of Agricultural Sciences (AASAS), Nagaland University, marked its 25th Anniversary  Silver Jubilee with grandeur and nostalgia at the Multi-Purpose Hall, SAS, NU, Medziphema Campus. Held on October 20, 2025, the celebration united alumni from various batches, faculty members, and dignitaries to commemorate 25 years of shared growth, contribution, and unity.

The Special Guest for the event was Mr. Mhathung Yanthan, Hon’ble MLA and Advisor, Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, while Mr. Metsubo Jamir (1st Batch), Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, served as Chief Host, and Mr. A. Pangjung Jamir (5th Batch), Hon’ble MLA and Advisor, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, was the Honored Host.

The event commenced with the unveiling of the Silver Jubilee Monolith by Mr. Yanthan, followed by the Alumni Flag Hoisting by Mr. Pangjung Jamir. The invocation prayer was led by Prof. L. Daiho, Former Dean, SAS, and the welcome address was delivered by Mr. K. Neibou Sekhose, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and 1st President of AASAS. The Alumni Choir, led by Dr. Imliakum Ao (29th Batch) and Dr. Chubatemsu Ozukum (27th Batch), set a nostalgic tone with a heartfelt welcome song.

Prof. Akali Sema, Secretary of the Organizing Committee and 1st General Secretary of AASAS, presented the “Journey of AASAS”, highlighting milestones and achievements over the years, accompanied by video clips from alumni worldwide. A felicitation ceremony followed, recognizing distinguished alumni, along with the presentation of Academic Excellence Awards by Prof. L. Tongpang Longkumer (5th Batch), President of the Association.

Formal speeches were delivered by Mr. Metsubo Jamir, Mr. Marthon Sangma, and Prof. Dipak Sinha, Pro-Vice Chancellor, NU. The Silver Jubilee Souvenir was also released during the event.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Mhathung Yanthan emphasized that the celebration represented not only 25 years of existence but also 25 years of excellence, dedication, and transformation. He highlighted the alumni’s continued role in uplifting farmers, empowering youth, conserving resources, and restoring agriculture’s dignity and value in society.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Hoto Yeptho (1st Batch), followed by a technical session (2:00–4:00 PM) chaired by Prof. Pauline Alila (5th Batch), and a General Body Meeting presided over by Prof. L. Tongpang Longkumer. The day culminated in a vibrant cultural programme (6:00–8:00 PM) coordinated by Dr. Watilmongla Jamir (9th Batch), featuring alumni and student performances celebrating the SAS community’s spirit.

The event also recognized outstanding students with AASAS-sponsored Academic Excellence Awards:

  • Miss Nivedita Kumari (B.Sc. Ag. 2021–2025) – INR 20,000 and certificate.

  • Miss Neisinuo Shine Kiso (1st Year, 2024–25) – INR 10,000 and certificate (Peri Om Pun Excellence Award).

  • Miss Wapangnaro S. Imsong (2nd Year, 2024–25) – INR 10,000 and certificate (R2 Seeds Excellence Award).

  • Miss Aysha Parween (3rd Year, 2024–25) – INR 10,000 and certificate (Lt. Cherish Ch. Marak Excellence Award).

The AASAS Silver Jubilee Celebration truly reflected 25 years of excellence, unity, and the enduring legacy of the SAS alumni in advancing agricultural education and development in Nagaland and beyond.
